Clarinet

Clarinet in Music Performance (6 weeks) provides technical skills, musical knowledge and performing experience that prepares students for a wide range of professional and creative opportunities as performing musicians. This course is designed for students who wish to develop contemporary music performance skills.

COURSE OVERVIEW

Clarinet in Music Performance curriculum at School of Contemporary Music College is designed to develop technical ability, appropriate stylistic vocabulary, fluency in harmony and theory, excellent sight-reading, and improvisational confidence. Every Clarinet student at SCM will develop professional performance abilities in contemporary music styles as both a solo and ensemble Clarinet performer through advanced studies in technique, reading, ensemble, stylistic appropriateness/diversity, tone production, performing and recording music “by-ear,” transposing memorized and notated music “on the spot,” and live performance workshops/ensembles and emerges well-prepared to meet the needs of today’s diverse music industry. Through frequent comprehensive ensemble work and personalized private lessons, you’ll develop your abilities as both an impressive strong solo player and ensemble Clarinet performer. Receiving instruction in contemporary styles including pop, rock, R&B, jazz, and gospel will prepare you for live performance and studio work in the music business.

You will perform frequently alongside your fellow students as well as our world-renowned faculty members, who have deep experience the music industry and in academia. They will serve you as supportive mentors, guiding you in all aspects of modern Clarinet playing including performance, recording, song writing and composition.

Here at SCM you’ll participate in an engaging hands-on education that constantly challenges you to take your talent to new heights. Our immersive environment directly mirrors the ever-evolving music industry. You’ll learn how to design and manipulate multi-effects, and different amplifiers to achieve a variety of great-sounding tones. You will explore a diversity of styles, and master the music you’re most passionate about. SCM is the smartest first step on your journey towards becoming a pro Clarinet player.

There will be a maximum of 9 participants per class.

Repeat rules: Course may be repeated for credit without restriction.

Who is it for?

This course is ideal for aspiring musicians with little to no experience in music performance. It is highly recommended for students who want to apply for further study in music.

Cost

£120 (includes student materials pack and course tuition). Your fee also includes an ID card to access the building, as well as access to our fantastic library facilities for the duration of this course.
